Cardi B Becomes First Female Rapper in History to Have Two #1 Songs

Posted by

Today, Cardi B ingrained herself into hip-hop history by becoming the first female rapper to have two #1 songs on the Billboard Hot 100.

She first reached #1 on September 25, 2017 with her debut single, “Bodak Yellow,” which was certified 6X Platinum by the RIAA. Today, she reaches the top spot again with her debut album, Invasion of Privacy‘s fourth single, “I Like It” featuring Bad Bunny and J Balvin.

The feat adds another major win to Cardi’s triumphant first era. Her break-out as the biggest mainstream female rapper since Nicki Minaj, has included six top 10 singles on the Billboard Hot 100 in one year. After the success of “Bodak Yellow,” Cardi reached #4 on the Hot 100 with her feature on G-Eazy’s “No Limit” with A$AP Rocky, and followed that up by reaching #6 on the chart with her feature on “Motorsport;” a Migos track that she shared with Minaj. She then reached #3 in January with her feature on Bruno Mars’ “Finesse (Remix).” And just last month, she hit #4 on the chart once again with her feature on Maroon 5’s “Girls Like You,” before her July victory with “I Like It.”

The second and third singles from Invasion of Privacy also performed well on the Billboard Hot 100. The track, “Bartier Cardi” featuring 21 Savage peaked at #14 and was certified 2X Platinum by the RIAA, while “Be Careful” reached a peak of #11. Since its release, Invasion of Privacy has been certified Gold by the RIAA for sales and streaming equivalents of over 500,000 copies, which was achieved without the album ever being released physically in CD format.
