In recent years, the rollouts for new seasons of FX’s hit show, American Horror Story, have been less revealing. Back during the first few eras of the show, details regarding an upcoming season were always revealed in the spring, sometimes including the name of the season itself. Although we still do not have Season 8’s title, it is rumored that the new season will be called, American Horror Story: Radioactive. Despite the official title being kept under wraps like its predecessors, American Horror Story: Roanoke and American Horror Story: Cult, series creator, Ryan Murphy, has revealed a slew of other details about the latest installment.
When looking at the new season’s plot, it was announced that the show will take place 17 months into the future, in October 2019. Murphy stated that this season will be a return to the eerie tones of American Horror Story: Asylum and American Horror Story: Coven. Despite the similar aura to past seasons, Season 8 will not be a “crossover” season like American Horror Story: Freakshow or American Horror Story: Hotel. The season is said to be “heightened” when compared to past installments according to Murphy, which hints that the style of horror will be less realistic than the last season. During AHS: Cult, many fans noticed a multitude of easter eggs and hints surrounding a “crown” or a “revolution.” This leads many speculators to wonder if the new season will involve some type of societal rebellion. Fans also noted that in AHS: Cult, there were multiple references to Butte, Montana, which leads many fans to wonder if that is where the new season will take place.
The first cast member invited back for Season 8 was Sarah Paulson. According to her, this season her character will be sporting “dental appliances.” Kathy Bates and Evan Peters will also return to lead the season alongside Paulson, with Peters playing a hairstylist. Later, it was announced that Hollywood legends Joan Collins and Anjelica Huston had also signed on to star in the new season. Collins will reportedly play the grandmother of Peters’ character. Other cast members returning for Season 8 include, Billie Lourd, Adina Porter, Cheyenne Jackson, Leslie Grossman, and Billy Eichner, who were all present in the last season.
Despite the details being scarce, there are multiple reasons why Season 8 sounds promising. The first reason is that the style of horror will be similar to Asylum and Coven, which are commonly ranked by fans as the show’s best seasons. Another reason is that the return of Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, and Kathy Bates ensures that the newest installment will include brilliant performances. Finally, if true, the “rebellion” theory guarantees that the season will be tense like the early seasons of AHS that people fell in love with.
Filming for Season 8 of American Horror Story will commence on June 16th. It is set for a Fall 2018 premiere.
